The number of Australian cotton growers registered with the Better Cotton Initiative has been growing each year. Unfortunately, ongoing drought conditions throughout the growing regions of NSW and Queensland has impacted on the size of the crop, and therefore the volumes of Better Cotton available from Australia in recent seasons.
To qualify for BCI, Australia's cotton growers must reach full certification in the industry's myBMP (Best Management Practices) program which involves meeting over 300 criteria for full certification.
In the 2019 BCI Season (est)
- 157 Australian cotton farms opted in to BCI, all holding full certification in the myBMP (Best Management Practices) program
- 57,421 hectares of Australian cotton were produced as Better Cotton, equating to 19.6% of total area
- 102,723 tonnes of Better Cotton lint was produced in Australia
