Planting of the 2024-25 Australian cotton crop is well underway, with most regions reporting an excellent start to the season, and an expected positive flow on effect into regional cotton communities.
Cotton Australia is predicting another huge crop of over 4.4 million bales, with more rain-fed cotton expected to be planted if spring rains continue.
This crop is valued at an estimated $3 billion, with regional employment and the Australian economy benefitting from an industry that supports farming families and their communities.
According to the latest CRDC survey, 94% of Australian cotton growers volunteer in their communities, the highest volunteering rate in all of agriculture – and in seasons like this the industry employs over 21,00 people, mainly in rural Australia.
Cotton is an annual crop (planted once a year in spring), with the first cotton harvest starting in the north in Central Queensland around the end of February. The summer is a busy period for our farmers who are busy watering, fertilising checking for pests and generally caring for their summer crops.
