Love Thy Farmer is more than just a brand - it’s a heartfelt tribute to the hardworking families behind Australian agriculture. Founded by friends who live and breathe farming, Love Thy Farmer champions local growers, rural communities, and the quality of Australian cotton.
"Two friends who are passionate about farming, rural communities, and natural fibres. We believe Australia produces the best in the world," shares co-founder Sarah Wilson. Inspired by their deep appreciation for the industry, Love Thy Farmer ensures their products directly support those who cultivate the land. Their journey began when plastic bags were being phased out, and the team set out to create Australian cotton tote bags.
"It was near impossible to find Australian cotton fabric to do this, but we got in touch with a company making Australian cotton T-shirts," Sarah says. In November 2019, the brand officially launched and has been celebrating Australian-grown cotton ever since.

For Louise Porter and her family, cotton farming at Cecil Plains, QLD, is not just a profession but a way of life. "Most days I get to see our sons and perhaps a cuddle from our little people if they’re tagging along," she shares. Family is at the heart of the Porter operation, with her sons returning to the farm after gaining experience elsewhere. "Three boys later decided that they believe farming can add more value to their working and family life and are now giving it their best," Louise adds.
With Australian cotton leading the way in sustainable practices, brands like Love Thy Farmer are helping showcase its benefits to the world. "The Porters have been farming here since 1958, each generation valuing what it takes to progress and to support both the now and future generations," says Louise. Through efficient water use, innovative techniques, and a commitment to quality, Australian cotton continues to thrive.

Sarah and her co-founder Melinda Palmer have also seen firsthand the importance of supporting Australian farmers. "Farming is in our blood. Our families have been friends for four generations, and our fathers farmed together for many years. We think Australian farmers are the best in the world," she says. This deep-rooted connection drives the brand’s commitment to Australian cotton, and it’s something their customers appreciate too. "Our most common feedback is that our T-shirts last so well they are able to be handed down."
Looking to the future, Sarah hopes to see more local manufacturing return. "More of how it used to be. The whole process could be done in Australia," she says passionately. She also dreams of a shift towards natural fibres among younger generations, adding, "We would love to see Australian children wearing cotton instead of polyester."

Louise also sees the role of women in agriculture evolving. "I love seeing our sons more involved with the parenting role and supporting their wives to achieve in their careers," she says. Balancing work and family life is essential, and maintaining traditions like summer gatherings ensures future generations remain connected to the land.
Through brands like Love Thy Farmer, the story of Australian cotton is being told — a story that values heritage, sustainability, family, and the future of farming communities. As Louise reflects, "I’d like to hope that our grandchildren get the same opportunities." With every product crafted from locally grown cotton, Love Thy Farmer brings that vision to life, celebrating the people and passion behind every fibre.
