Cotton growers in the Macquarie Valley are doing their bit to help communities replenish fish stocks in the Macquarie River.
The Macquarie Valley Cotton Growers Association (MVCGA) recently partnered with the Narromine and Warren Shire Councils to organise a fish release event at the Narromine and Warren boat ramps.
A total of 7,000 Murray cod and 4,500 Golden Perch fingerlings, ranging from 40mm to 70mm, were released to boost fish stocks in the Macquarie River, which has been affected by drought and flooding. This marks the first release in three years due to flooding.
Macquarie Valley CGA contributed $5,000 of the $9,000 cost for fish supplied by Tara Native Fish Hatchery, in Hopefield, NSW. The event was well-supported, with locals in Narromine and Warren showing up in force.
The MVCGA is grateful for the community's backing in taking positive steps for the local environment.
