The first cotton seeds are in the ground for the 2024-25 cotton growing season as farmers in Central Queensland embrace spring and warmer temperatures.
On the back of great winter rain and high yielding winter crops, cotton growers have spent the past few weeks ensuring their soil is prepared for what is shaping up to be a positive season.
Cotton Australia Chair, Nigel Burnett, who farms in Emerald, Central Queensland, said the 2024-25 season was looking like another big year for the industry.
“We are looking at about a 3.8 million bale crop this year, which historically is still a very strong cotton crop,” Nigel said.
“The season has just kicked off in Central Queensland, and the rest of the valleys south into Queensland and New South Wales will begin to plant across the next few weeks and into October.
“From here, it will be full steam ahead into Christmas irrigating and looking to harvest this season’s crop from April onwards.”
Cotton Australia's brand and retail partners can continue to expect plenty of Australian cotton available in the global market next year from suppliers in our key markets: China, Vietnam, India, Indonesia and Bangladesh.
