Cotton Australia welcomes Better Cotton’s announcement that it will become a regenerative standard within the next 12 months - a move that signals a growing global commitment to farming practices that restore and protect the environment, while supporting farmers and rural communities.

Speaking at the 2025 Better Cotton Conference in Türkiye, Better Cotton’s Senior Director of Demand and Engagement, Eva Benavidez Clayton, outlined plans to embed regenerative agriculture more formally within the organisation’s field-level standards, building on existing principles already in place.

This evolution aligns with a growing global consensus: sustainability must now go beyond mitigation or doing less harm. Regenerative agriculture represents a proactive step toward improving soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and ensuring long-term resilience - goals that many Australian cotton growers are already actively pursuing.

Australian cotton is internationally recognised for its commitment to continuous improvement and supports initiatives that raise the bar across the global industry and provide farmers with meaningful tools and guidance for on-ground improvements.

For the remainder of the year, Better Cotton will conduct pilots to advance this work and simultaneously revise its Principles & Criteria. Cotton Australia looks forward to continuing their collaboration with Better Cotton and its partners as the industry continues to evolve.
