The alternative water and cotton story was presented to over 300 fashion industry delegates at the Circular Fashion Conference in Melbourne in March.

Cotton Australia’s Brooke Summers was a guest speaker on the topic of where cotton fits in circular fashion business models, and took the opportunity to ensure some of the myths about cotton and water were addressed.

“I had a number of approaches from brands after the presentation to show their appreciation about hearing another side of the story.  Many city based people just don’t get access to balanced coverage of the issues and so it was great to take the opportunity to represent raw materials and our farmers in this way,” Cotton Australia Supply Chain Consultant, Brooke Summers said.

Brooke was also a judge at the Conference Hackathon, where teams of university students tackled issues of textile waste posed by industry partners including Australian Wool Innovation and the Salvos.
